Welcome to “Your Faith!”
I have been a disciple of Jesus since August 26th, 2007, when after spending time studying and internalizing the gospel message, I responded in faith, repentance and was baptized. While my personal walk as a Christian began in 2007, my journey in spirituality started essentially at birth. My steadfast parents, Monzell and Ria Baker, lived working in the full-time Christian ministry throughout my entire childhood and through my middle school years. They spent over half a decade planting and leading multi-racial churches in Apartheid stricken South Africa before moving back to the US in 1991 where they continued their ministry work in Dallas and San Antonio for the next 15 years. Their characters of devout love for God and others is what has shaped my own heart in my faith journey.
As God has molded me year after year, another defining step in my faith was when I enrolled in a graduate Christian seminary program at the Houston Graduate School of Theology in Houston, Texas in 2015 (my mom was a professor for the Masters of Counseling program at the time). I completed my Masters in Theological Studies in 2018 as a part-time student while working full-time at my then job in civil engineering (among other commitments), and all the effort was more than worth the growth in faith and conviction gained. I hope to continue my studies soon!
My investment spiritually is the BEDROCK of my life! Everything that I do is with the focus of bringing glory to God (Colossians 3:23). My spiritual development has been as the result of the years I have spent not just in personal study but in numerous ministry leadership positions at my previous home church in Houston, Texas, The Greater Houston Church. There, I had the great honor of leading a Christian ministry and small group while in college at Rice University, I served as a ministry shepherd for the church’s teen and college ministries, song worship leader, as a member of the church’s teacher training ministry, and leader for the singles & young professional ministry.
Since my move to Nashville, TN, I have continued my commitment to faith leadership in a few different capacities. I have excitedly stepped into a Faith Chaplaincy role at the Christian, classical education elementary school “King’s Academy” and as a member of the worship team at Church of the City-Downtown.
All of this is not to point at me to say, “look what I have done!” but to portray how much God has done in my life! I am driven by gratitude for the grace of God which has given me new life in Christ Jesus and the everlasting hope of being with Him in heaven when I leave this earth.
I am excited to share the insights, perspectives, wisdom, and teachings that have shaped me into the man of God that I am forever journeying to be.
To God be the glory.
